High Voltage Pulsed Power Technician

Zap Energy is currently looking for an experienced, accomplished, self-motivated technician with detailed knowledge and experience with pulsed-power high voltage electrical/electronic, control systems. Working with Zap Energy scientific and technical staff, the Technician will assist in implementation of Zap Energy high voltage power supply systems and design, construction, implementation, troubleshooting, general electronics and electrical systems. The ideal candidate is an organized, inventive problem solver, capable of working through technical challenges and employing sound, pragmatic solutions through team efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Zap Energy scientific and engineering staff with design, fabrication and operation of high-voltage pulsed-power systems.
  • Equipment testing and maintenance
  • Inventory management (maintaining stocks of supplies, vendor lists, etc.)
  • Assist in Zap Energy experimental operations

Qualifications:

Required:

  • 5+ years' experience as an HV pulsed-power technician in industry or in an R&D group
  • Experience with electronics, AC electrical power and cabling (building and using coaxial & HV cables)
  • Experience with HV switches
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical and mechanical devices

 Preferred:

  • Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks)
  • Bachelors in Engineering, Physics
  • Other relevant certification (ie. certified electrician or OSHA)

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $40-$60/hour. Candidates may be considered for other positions at Zap Energy and the actual salary will be based on relevant education, experience, and other qualifications.  The range is published in accordance with the Washington Equal Pay and Opportunity Act.

Zap Energy is building a low-cost, compact, and scalable fusion energy platform that confines and compresses plasma without the need for expensive and complex magnetic coils. Zap’s sheared-flow-stabilized Z-pinch technology provides compelling fusion economics and requires orders of magnitude less capital than conventional approaches. Zap Energy has approximately 150 team members in multiple facilities near Seattle and is backed by leading financial and strategic investors.
