The planet urgently needs safe, reliable, zero-carbon energy without waste. Nuclear fusion can address the scale of this problem, but for decades, existing fusion approaches have not proven a net positive energy gain. Zap Energy has rethought the fundamental technology of fusion. As the only company using sheared-flow-stabilized Z-pinch, we present potentially the fastest path to commercially available fusion energy. 

Zap Energy is searching for a Supply Chain Manager to lead fulfillment of all hardware required for a new fusion device design. This person will develop a sourcing plan concurrently with fusion device development, identifying and actioning long-lead components in parallel with design finalization. They will be responsible for deploying a sourcing strategy that leverages vertical integration, strategic partnerships and proactive risk reduction measures to drive a hardware rich development cycle. This person is responsible for generating the data and executing the process required to drive a high cadence of product development.  

Responsibilities:   

  • Drive on-time delivery of hardware for a nuclear fusion device and its supporting systems. 
  • Build and sustain a hardware-rich development program to accelerate fusion device design. 
  • Shorten development cycles by reducing engineering-to-stock lead times and implementing strategic procurement measures. 
  • Develop and execute comprehensive sourcing plans, including long-lead procurement strategies and capital equipment acquisition.
  • Lead vendor selection and manage key agreements, including NDAs and terms and conditions. 
  • Maintain master data required for manufacturing and procurement across assigned fusion systems.
  • Own project execution from sourcing through operational testing, ensuring timely delivery and integrated supply planning. 

Qualifications:   

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, Supply Chain Management or other technical field.
  • 5+ years in technical role at an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) or manufacturing company. Technical roles include an engineer, technical project manager, scientist, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years in a senior supply chain, business, manufacturing, quality role or equivalent.
  • Strong experience with New Product Introduction – experience in the different stages of the product development lifecycle, from program approval and architecture review to sustaining support and recurring production. 
  • Demonstrated passion for Operations, Supply Chain, Quality or Manufacturing. 

Preferred:   

  • Formal Continuous Improvement experience preferred (Six Sigma, Lean)
  • Master of Business Administration preferred.  


The estimated salary range for this position is $140k - $180k.
